One day, soprano, Gabriella Di Laccio, walked through a second hand book market and found two large encyclopaedias listing thousands of women composers throughout history. She was shocked - she had spent years studying music and never heard of these women composers. This was the beginning of Gabriella’s journey to find and share the forgotten history of women composers and their music. A journey that has become more urgent in the age of AI – datapoint by datapoint, composer by composer, Gabriella is determined to restore the missing half of humanity’s musical creativity. Gabriella is a soprano and activist who brings to life the music and stories of the women history forgot. She founded the Donne Foundation to show how inequality shapes what we hear, amplifying the voices of women, past and present. In 2024, she led Let HER MUSIC Play: a 26-hour concert that broke a Guinness World Record uniting audiences across continents. Gabriella was also named one of the BBC’s 100 Most Inspiring and Influential Women and honoured with an MBE for services to music and gender equality. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
