*THIS IS A CHAT FREE VOCAL WARM UP - a video that has been edited so that all my random chat inbetween exercises (and let's face it, I chat a lot!) has been removed. It's a full vocal warm up routine that is just the exercises. Enjoy!* I am a classically trained soprano who has had years of opera training and so this sort of singing is my safe space. But don't for a second think that because this is an operatic warm up and you don't like/sing opera that this warm up isn't for you... I teach a lot of this technique to my singers that sing musical theatre, jazz and even pop and rock. Because singing isn't rocket science. These sorts of exercises are ones that singers have been doing for hundreds of years for a very good reason. Because they work! They create space for a full sound that pulls on the perfect balance of head and chest resonance. Great for singing opera, great for singing ANYTHING! In this video we start with finding our breath, breathing in, holding and exhaling our breath slowing the beat each time before really engaging with our powerhouse and doing some CHUH CHUH train sounds. Next we do two, yes two lip bubble exercises, firstly a slow arpeggio and then a five note staccato scale. After that we slide up interval leaps of 5ths opening up from an MMM to an AHH and then descending through the scale. Then we sing the vowel MAY to a melodic pattern around the five note scale before doing a building pattern alternating between an ORH and and EH vowel. Our last exercises are singing a NAHH vowel up an octave arpeggio before sliding through 3rds, 4ths, 5ths and octave intervals to a HUNH vowel. It's a nice big warm up and it's glorious! New videos come every week so let me know in the comments what you'd like to hear about (Technique? Song breakdowns? Singer analysis?) We're a democracy at MusicForMy... so you get to chose!
