Long overdue, but I wanted to share what Monroe’s meal prep looked like while she was going through chemo. ❤️🩹 When Monroe started chemotherapy, our goal wasn’t to “treat cancer with food” — that’s what the chemo was for — but to support her immune system, gut health, and overall strength so her body could handle treatment as well as possible. The gut plays such a huge role in immunity, and I wanted to give her every advantage I safely could. Because chemo suppresses the immune system, we switched from her usual raw diet to a fully cooked diet that was formulated specifically for Monroe by her nutritionist. Normally raw is totally fine for healthy dogs, but during chemo there’s a higher risk of bacterial infection — something we absolutely didn’t want to chance when her body was already working so hard. To make the whole process easier on me, I didn’t cook everything in one giant batch. Instead, whenever I had time, I’d steam the veggies and portion them out into silicone cube trays so they were ready to go whenever I needed them. I did the same with her bone broth, cancer tea, and tripe — little cubes I could just pop out and add into her meals. After about three weeks on this diet (plus her supplements), we started noticing a bit of weight gain — which was amazing during chemo. We tweaked the calories slightly and kept going with what worked. I’m so grateful she handled treatment as well as she did, and looking back at this reminds me just how strong she really is. 💛🐾 #dog #americanbulldog #osteosarcoma #cancerdog #chemotherapy #chemodog #tripoddog #amputeedog #chemo #dogchemo #mealprep #cancersupport
