Why do UGLY Depressing Buildings get Listed? Park Hill Flats Sheffield

Today we visit park Hill flats in Sheffield. An awful complex designed in the 1960's that towers over Sheffield. for many years these were council flats and viewed as an awful lace to live and an eye soar on the Sheffield skyline. However after under going redevelopment recently they are now seen as plush apartments , slick city centre modern living and charge high rents. It all seems bizarre to me and only a person of very low consciousness would chose to live here. Why on earth did they get listed in the first place? People wanted these ugly monstrosity's knocked down for years but as they were listed that wasn't possible. After redevelopment they still look awful. As its one of the first buildings you see when you enter Sheffield from the M1 this seems obsurd to me. We also look an awfully depressing building on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield that is in a prime spot as you enter the city centre of Sheffield. Again this is a listed building. Why do these awful , badly designed, ugly building become protected and get listed status? Why is new architecture so soulless and depressing. We used to be able to build magnificent structures n times before power tools but now with all this technology we crate soulless, uninspiring and depressing buildings. Where did our passion for beauty and creation go? is it as simple as we don't have the money and time to spend building magnificent structures anymore?
