Before I truly arrived in Fengjie, my imagination painted it as frozen in time. It was the lone sail in Tang poetry, the weathered years in cinema, a collective Chinese memory of wandering and parting sorrows. Boarding the little red boat from Wushan, watching the silent river flow between hushed green mountains, everything seemed to confirm this weighty image. Until I stepped onto the streets of Fengjie... The early morning streets were bustling with students rushing to school. Vendors, carrying fresh produce from the mountains, began selling right on the sidewalks. The farmers' market downtown was even more lively. In the early May summer, fresh peaches—perfectly arranged in bamboo baskets—were in season and utterly charming. This seemed different from the Fengjie I had imagined, until I reached the last old riverside neighborhood along the Yangtze. A fine rain began to fall, a thin mist rose over the river, and the stains on the old walls deepened. At the rainy dock, workers were dismantling abandoned boats. This, indeed, was the picture of nostalgia I had held. Yet, the true story of Fengjie unfolded vibrantly under the sunny skies. The city felt alive and warm. Asking for directions in its steep alleys, people would reply with smiles and animated gestures, their eyes brimming with unreserved sincerity. Buying braised delicacies from a street vendor, the owner, hearing me say it was delicious, insisted on giving me an extra duck head to try. Wandering through this three-dimensional mountain city, I felt its rooted vitality and palpable human energy. At dusk, sitting in Kuizhou Square watching children play, the imagined pathos and rootlessness of Fengjie drifted away with the wind, replaced by a solid, weighty sense of grounding. As night fell and boats drifted slowly down the river, the city, under a tapestry of starlight and streetlights, felt so settled and warm. Perhaps the nostalgia of the Three Gorges once floated upon the river. But Fengjie's answer is written in the enduring rhythm of daily life. It is far more concrete and warmer than any imagination. It showed me that the most profound solace lies not in some distant place, but right here—in this vibrant, living present. B站主页:https://space.bilibili.com/593971360
