As a child, I learned from self-care what to eat and what not to eat. Some of you may have these experiences, too. Our parents used to tell us what kind of food, what kind of spices go with what kind, and what is healthy eating. Indeed, that was meaningful learning. However, how about emotional, mental, spiritual, and social self-care? We were never told how to care for ourselves regarding other self-care domains. Considering an emotional sense of self-care, how do we care for ourselves? What do we do when sad, upset, angry, and lonely? What do we do when we feel abandoned, unwell, or disinterested in doing anything? The emotional aspects of self-care are fundamental, and we sometimes misunderstand them in relation to the other aspects of life. It's not uncommon to feel upset, sad, and lonely. In these moments, we might find ourselves blaming our own inadequacies or feeling unwell. On the other hand, we might find ourselves self-criticizing for not having a self-care plan or comparing ourselves to others who seem to be doing better. This is where seeking psychotherapy and emotional help becomes crucial. The key is to understand that self-care is a #holistic practice, requiring us to pay attention to multiple aspects of our lives and our unique identities. It's a process of recognizing our needs, values, hopes, and desires, while also understanding how we navigate our individuality in relation to the world. We also never learned as children that these are aspects that may be in your family. However, it was in most families in special multicultural communities because of the perhaps greatest emphasis on cultural differences, customs, and traditions. #self-care #selfcaresunday #selfcareessentials #
