It's long been debated how urbanisation in the ancient past should be defined. However, there us a general consensus on which characteristics made a settlement urban. In northwestern Arabia the lack of data on Bronze Age residential sites has made the subject all the more complicated in that region. Now, the discovery and partial excavation of al-Natah in the Khaybar Oasis has provided archaeologists with new and important information on urbanisation in northwestern Arabia and how this may have been influenced by similar settlements in the Southern Levant.
