In this video, Dr. Cristoforo Demartino talks about "OpenSees (Open System for Earthquake EngineeringSimulations) is an open-source software mainly conceived for the seismic analysis of structures. The source code is public to facilitate its wide diffusion and to be adaptable to the needs of users, who can also modify and extend default libraries in terms of materials, components, and algorithms. The main difficulties that users usually face during their first approach to OpenSees are due to the programming language, which might appear rather complex. This lecture will present and discuss the personal experience of an academic user for his research and teaching. The presentation will start with a general overview of open-source software clarifying that this is not meaning free and will discuss the best approaches for learning and use it, especially at the beginning. The speaker organized in the last five years several courses on OpenSees and he is actively using it. The content of this presentation is mainly based on the personal experience of Dr. Demartino."
