SALAMBA SIRSASANA I am demonstrating gradual, stage by stage ways, from lighter & more achievable for beginners to the more advanced dedicated to more experienced students, how to prepare & go into the Salamba Sirsana I (supported head stand I). I am giving hints how to correctly hold the pose & how to safely come out of it following The Iyengar Yoga Method. For beginners it is advisable to strengthen first the arms & shoulders, stabilise the thoracic spine, open then chest and correctly extend the spine and the whole back of the body. The classical way of going in & out of the pose is independent. ✧❖✦BENEFITS ✦❖✧ ● Salamba SIrsasana is one of the most refreshing and energising from all the inverted yoga poses. The controlled support on the top of the head presses and regulates the blood supply to the important nerve’s endings located on the crown of the head. It refreshes the brain and rejuvenates the whole nervous system. Thoughts and perception become clearer and brighter, so the mental horizon broadens. ● Together with Salamba Sarvangasana, Sirsasana is creating a "royal yoga duo", where Sirsasana is a "King" of all asanas & Sarvangasana is called a "Queen". One should practice regularly Sirsasana & Sarvangasana together in one session (or the closest alternatives to the poses). Since the headstand is more energising & the shoulder stand is more soothing, one should place Sirsasana before Sarvanagasana in the yoga sequence. ● The regular practice of inverted poses is beneficial for the fiunctioning of all the systems of the human body, it strengthens the immune system, it reduces the breathing problems, headaches, heart problems, mental tension, brain fatigue & eye problems. ●The practice of Salamba Sirsasana and the other inverted poses brings the physical health & stability leading further to the state of mental peace. Due to the anti gravitational effort the body has to apply during the practice of Sirsasana all systems of the body get strengthened: the nervous system as mentioned before, the bones and muscles, the blood circulation, the immune system, digestion and the breathing,... ▶︎Please REMEMBER that since Salamba Sirsasana is belonging to the Viparita Sthiti - the group of inverted yoga poses, one should abstain from them during menstruation or in case of certain health conditions, e.g. serious spinal problems (especially connected to the cervical spine), blood pressure disorders, ear inflammation, retinal detachment & other eyes problems. In case of any doubts consult yourself with the experienced yoga teacher. ▶︎The video I recorded with the intension to help you organise your practice of the head stand & to help you understand it better. THE DIRECT GUIDANCE OF EXPERIENCED IYENGAR YOGA TEACHER IS IRREPLACEABLE. Enjoy your practice!
