Perfectly manicured lawns may look harmless, but they come at a major cost to biodiversity. Sofia Doyle explores how traditional lawns damage ecosystems, reduce native plant habitat, and contribute to insect decline, and she shares simple ways individuals can restore native plants and help rebuild local prairie ecosystems. Sofia Doyle is a sophomore at Oak Park and River Forest High School. She is part of many extracurriculars at OPRFHS such as: Science Olympiad, Biology Research Club, and Crest. In her free time she likes to sew, read, and take care of her plants. She plans on studying sustainability and/or biology in college. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
