Sever's Disease (Calcaneal Apophysitis) Calcaneal Apophysitis (known more commonly as Sever’s disease) is an extremely common cause of heel pain in growing children. The condition is caused by an injury to the growth plate that resides in the heel bone at the back of the foot. This growth plate becomes inflamed and very painful as a result of repetitive stress. Children who are very active and participate in jumping sports and athletics (especially running and jumping sports) are more prone to developing this injury. In young children, bones grow through an area called a growth plate. This is how they get bigger and larger. These growth plates are made of cartilage and are a lot weaker, softer and more malleable than the surrounding soft tissues such as tendons. As a child gets older, these growth plates fuse. However, until they fuse they are more vulnerable to injury. This strapping technique is a great technique for helping to decrease stress and movement on the injured growth plate and should be done daily until symptoms subside. If your child is allergic to strapping tape then avoid this all together. http://www.myfootdr.com.sg https://www.myfootdr.com.sg/shop/
