What can our taste in music tell us about who we are, our history and our community? What do our favourite childhood tunes say about who we've grown up to be? In Australia and abroad, LGBTQIA+ people face systemic inequality, discrimination and violence. Like many political movements, symbols, songs and semantics play a critical role in memorialising the past of the Pride Movement and paving the way for a more equal future. How does music remind us of where we've been, and where we're going? Can music help us to make our dreams of equality into a reality? Lily Stokes is an event producer and musician living on Cammeraygal Land. By day, she is the Human Rights Conference Producer at Sydney WorldPride. By night, she is the singer and front-woman of queer grunge-disco band Passion Dash. As a proud bisexual woman, she is passionate about LGBTQIA+ issues and amplifying the voices of multiple marginalised people from within the rainbow community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
