NOTE FROM TED: This talk represents the speaker's personal views and interpretation of values and heart health, which remains an ongoing field of study. We've flagged this talk because it falls outside the content guidelines TED gives TEDx organizers. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t... For decades, psychologists and researchers have studied core values, what Senka Holzer calls “psychological DNA.” These core values are the things that light people up, give them pure joy―they are what matters most. When one’s life is aligned with their core values, they are at their best. Yet despite what popular psychology says, understanding one’s core values isn’t enough to guarantee fulfillment. In her talk Senka draws on her award-winning research and provides an intuitive guide to unhook yourself from the guilt-generating “iShoulds” and embrace your beautiful, messy, authentic self. After earning a PhD in Molecular Medicine, Senka received the Austrian Science Fund’s most prestigious fellowship for female scientists, which took her to the University of California, Davis. She organized a team of coaches and scientists and in 2015, her study won McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School’s Institute of Coaching research award. While sharing her knowledge with consultants, coaches, and trainers around the globe, Senka discovered remarkable patterns about how people with high levels of wellbeing think, act, and communicate about their values, further supporting her experimental findings. Senka leads a research group on heart signaling at the Department of Cardiology of the Medical University of Graz and enjoys sharing her work on values with her students, friends, professional coaches, leaders, and total strangers sitting next to her on a plane. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
