Overview: This presentation shares key findings from a Heuristic Inquiry, a qualitative study on how equine experiential learning supports somatic restoration in trauma survivors. Grounded in trauma-informed, mind-body approaches, it highlights how horse-human interactions help regulate the nervous system, rebuild trust, and support embodied healing. The research provides practical insights for therapists, coaches, and community leaders seeking alternative healing modalities rooted in nature and relationships. Biosketch: Dr. Aletha Williams is a U.S. Navy veteran, trauma-informed healer, community-based artist, and a mind-body practitioner. She holds a doctorate in Mind-Body Medicine and is the author of a dissertation on somatic restoration through equine experiential learning. Her work has been featured by America’s VetDogs, BehindBarz, and Tango Alpha Lima, where she champions holistic healing for veterans and trauma survivors. As an avid artist, she creates large-scale murals that foster dialogue and healing across communities. Dr. Williams integrates creative expression, somatic therapies, and equine-assisted work to help individuals reconnect with themselves and their purpose. Her mission is to transform pain into power through connection, creativity, and care. Questions and comments about Saybrook’s programs and the self-care videos?
