The Automotive Training Academy by Assurant provides informational video tips to help you and your team deliver better results in an ethical and compliant manner. Our instructors bring decades of real- world automotive experience to this video series, as well as our five-day immersive F&I Professionals course. This LIVE In-person program is offered at our Houston/The Woodlands office. In this video, Trent White describes how just one bad day with a reliable car could cost your customers thousands. Let’s talk about One Bad Day — because we can all agree, that’s a real possibility. When a customer says, “I’m buying a good car,” or “I’ll take my chances,” here’s a great way to respond: “I hear you — and you’re right, it is a good car. The only reason we’re discussing additional protection isn’t because it’s a bad vehicle — it’s because it’s a great one, with a lot of advanced technology.” But let me ask you this: “If you drove off today and that good car turned out to be only 75% reliable, would you still call it a good car?” Of course not. None of us would. And that’s not what we expect from the vehicles we offer. Now, I’d love to promise 100% reliability for the next five years — but we both know that’s not realistic. These are machines, built by humans. And machines break. Even the factory knows that — which is why they offer limited protection right up front. Let’s say your car is nearly perfect — 99.9% reliable. You mentioned you plan to own it for five years — that’s 1,825 days. At 99.9% reliability, that’s 1.8 days in the shop. Let’s round that to just one bad day. Here’s what that one day could cost: • Labor rate: $200/hour • One full day of labor: $1,600 • Parts often match labor: another $1,600 That’s $3,200 — for just one bad day. And that’s at today’s prices. So, if you could protect yourself from that one bad day — wouldn’t it make sense to add the coverage and enjoy the ownership experience you deserve? And here’s a Pro Tip: This technique works for any protection product you offer — not just vehicle service contracts. I’m Trent White with the Automotive Training Academy, thank you for watching.
