After having children I had weakened abdominal muscles. I noticed I had an empty line up the middle of my stomach when I laid down. Years went by. I ended up getting umbilical hernia from lifting at work over several weeks and not engaging my core muscles properly. I had to have surgery. After surgery they did not know what exercises I could do. They just said take it easy for two - three weeks then continue on as normal. So I started doing my own research. I found out that what I had was something called Diastasis Recti (separation of the stomach muscles). Which can be caused from having children or being overweight, or other factors. Wishing I had known this after having my second child I would have strengthened my abs more and in a different way.
