Backed by steep hills and fronted by the sea, Mevagissey is equal parts postcard and working port, with every step echoing the rhythm of a village shaped by salt and sails. 🕰️ Highlights, History & Local Lore First recorded in the 14th century and named after two saints—Meva and Issey—Mevagissey grew rich from pilchards and boatbuilding. Today, it’s one of the few Cornish harbours where fishing still happens daily, with colourful boats bobbing in the inner and outer quays. The maze of cobbled streets is a treasure trove of details: hand-painted signs for family-run shops, centuries-old net lofts repurposed as art galleries, and weather-beaten pubs that whisper tales of sailors and smuggling. Mevagissey once boasted over 60 pubs, a testament to its boisterous maritime past, and though fewer now remain, the spirit of the place is just as lively.
