Sky Alps is an Italian regional airline that commenced operations in June 2021. Its main hub is Bolzano (Northern Italy), and it operates an all-Q400 fleet as of October 2024. Join me as I fly with them today from Rome Fiumicino to Ancona. Overall, this flight was quite something! We were just 3 (!) passengers on board this 78-seater Q400, meaning the load factor was roughly 3,8%. That's the new record for the emptiest flight I've ever been on, and it felt like being on a private plane! But why was the flight so empty? Well, I can think of three reasons for that... the first reason is that, at the time of making this video, there is only one daily flight between Rome and Ancona, and the departure times aren't suitable for day trips. Secondly, I thought the ticket price was a bit high (120€) for such a short route which, for the record, is subsidized; even when considering it included a checked bag and seat reservation. And the third, and most important reason (in my opinion), is the lack of codeshare or interline agreements with other airlines. Having said that, the flight itself was excellent. The crew were very friendly and attentive, the service great considering we were in the air for less than 40 minutes, and I liked the fact that they had an inflight magazine on board! As a side note, I did find it rather amusing that the one F/A said "ladies and gentlemen" in her announcements, considering that we were indeed only gentlemen on board.
