OVERVIEW: This course will explore the distinctive cognitive and emotional factors that influence young people's experiences with drugs and alcohol. Participants will gain valuable insights into the biological reactions of the adolescent brain during substance abuse, enhancing their ability to empathize and communicate effectively with young individuals facing these challenges. We'll discuss behavioral changes and risk factors that may signal the need for intervention. Additionally, we'll explore effective strategies for initiating and navigating the intervention process. OBJECTIVES: Participants will... • Dive deeper into the effects of addiction on the adolescent brain. • Explore the process and applicable tools to address adolescent addiction recovery. • Discuss healthy connections—the key to replacing the need to use substances and other numbing techniques. BIO: Arden is a licensed substance use disorder counselor with over 30 years of experience across secure-care, residential, and outpatient settings for both adolescents and adults. He holds an MBA in Healthcare Management and has worked at both the ground level and in administration across various programs. Arden also chaired a residential best practice committee, helping develop and implement standards for multiple programs.
