The Preacher Curl can be such a valuable exercise if done properly. But sadly I see way too many people just doing it all wrong. Step 1 - knowing how to set the seat to get maximum tension on the bicep. This common mistake can be easily fixed if you follow these to rules: your arm pits should be buried at the top of the pad and your triceps should be flush on angled part of the pad. This will ensure you aren’t getting your shoulders into the lift. Step 2 – do not go too low. This exercise is simply not safe to work the full range of motion. I cannot tell you how many torn biceps I’ve seen bc guys load the EZ bar up, over stretch and BOOM, that bicep rolls up into the front delt. To me, we chose other exercises within the workout to hammer the stretch, where the preacher curl is all about bicep isolation and contraction.
