Welcome to Day 2 of Somatic Kickstart, my transformative 30-day journey to restoring balance, resilience, and calm through nervous system regulation. Today’s routine features powerful exercises designed to bring relief from the symptoms of anxiety WHAT IS ANXIETY? Anxiety is a natural response to stress, but it can become debilitating when it persists or feels uncontrollable. Symptoms often include racing thoughts, muscle tension, rapid heartbeat, and a sense of dread. These sensations arise from an overactive nervous system stuck in a fight-or-flight state. BENEFITS OF EACH EXERCISE 1. Butterfly Hug -Calms the Nervous System: The gentle tapping motion activates both hemispheres of the brain through bilateral stimulation, breaking the cycle of anxious thoughts. -Promotes Presence: This technique shifts attention away from overwhelming thoughts to the sensations of the body, fostering a sense of grounding. -Signals Safety: The rhythmic motion sends calming signals to the nervous system, helping it transition from a fight-or-flight state to one of relaxation. 2. Grounding Through Hand Rubbing -Redirects Energy: The repetitive motion helps to channel anxious energy into a physical activity, reducing restlessness and hyperarousal. -Enhances Mindfulness: The warmth and tactile sensation from rubbing your hands anchors you to the present moment, creating a sense of stability. -Encourages Regulation: The upward and downward movement mirrors the natural flow of expansion and grounding, helping to restore emotional balance. 3. Ocean Sound Breath -Activates Relaxation: By engaging the parasympathetic nervous system, this breathing technique signals the body that it’s safe to relax. -Reduces Heart Rate: The steady rhythm of the breath helps to slow down a racing heart, easing physical symptoms of anxiety. -Encourages Inner Focus: The audible “wave” sound directs attention inward, quieting mental chatter and fostering a meditative state. 4. Soothing Scalp Massage -Releases Physical Tension: Gentle circular motions and light pulling stimulate blood flow, reducing stress stored in the scalp. -Improves Relaxation: By activating pressure points on the scalp, this exercise helps to ease mental tension and foster a sense of calm. -Enhances Well-Being: The sensory stimulation from the massage creates a soothing experience, promoting emotional relaxation and comfort. - Whether you’re new to somatics or looking to deepen your practice, this guided somatic practice offers a gentle introduction to connecting with your body, mind and soul. Don’t forget to like, comment, and share your experience. Thank you for joining me on this routine! Reminder: If you sigh, yawn, shiver, swallow or have an emotional release, this is a sign your nervous system is starting to regulate and feel safer. - YouTube: / @shebreath_teresa Instagram: shebreath_official TikTok: sheBREATH Website: www.shebreath.com My music is by Epidemic Sounds: https://share.epidemicsound.com/aq6ls9 - As a certified trauma-centered somatic practitioner and breath therapist, I help you regulate your nervous system through somatics and breathwork.
