In Rope Flow Lesson 1, we will learn the Overhand Underhand Figure 8, also known as the Race and Chase. This is a beginner-level exercise that involves using a weighted rope or cord to perform a figure 8 pattern with the hands. This exercise is excellent for improving coordination and strengthening the arms and upper body. To begin, stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold the rope with both hands in an overhand grip. Keep your elbows close to your body, and your shoulders relaxed. Next, swing the rope over your head and under your feet to create a figure 8 pattern. As the rope passes under your feet, switch to an underhand grip and continue the figure 8 pattern. Once you have the basic figure 8 pattern down, you can add in element by moving your feet and body in a side-to-side motion as you swing the rope. This will add a cardiovascular element to the exercise and challenge your coordination even further. With practice, you can increase the speed and complexity of the figure 8 pattern to continue challenging yourself and improving your skills. Give it a try and see how it feels!
