Today was the big day for our hobby chick!! After branching up and down the nest tree limbs, the 35 day old hobby falcon chick spread its wings and took flight in a beautiful departure across the land. Congratulations young hobby chick and godspeed! It sounded like Mom was calling for her chick right before it took flight -perhaps she had food. The chick will stay close to the nest until it gets ready to take off to Africa in its migration. Usual time for leaving is the second half of September but they can stick around till early October. Wildlife Windows believe the chick is a male. Thank you Wildlife Windows for all the coverage and information on this nest. I wish you well in all your endeavors & look forward to watching them again next season! Thank you for watching my coverage of the Dorset Hobby Falcon Nest! The adult male is the same male (he is ringed) but we think the female is a new bird as she doesn’t have the aberrant white feather on her head which has been present in previous years. We still don’t have a full ring number for the male but are fairly certain he was ringed as a chick by us in 2019 approx. 10km away. " Thank you for watching!
