One of the top questions I've been asked since starting this channel: is there access to medical care in the Far North of the Scottish Highlands? And, if so, how is it? The short answer is that yes, there are medical facilities in the Far North, although for anything serious you're going to Raigmore in Inverness. Depending on where you are in Sutherland or Caithness, that could be some time and distance away. In southeastern Sutherland, Inverness is about an hour away by car, but there are smaller facilities located much closer for minor injuries. The other thing to keep in mind is that we have Scotland's NHS here, so while you can go private if you wish, the NHS is amazing. It's not perfect, though, so we're going to talk about that, as well as contrast it against American health care. And we also go sightseeing to Carn Liath, an Iron Age broch just north of Golspie in southeastern Sutherland. Oh, and Annabelle makes another surprise cameo. I think a lot of people, especially Americans, fantasize about building new lives in the Scottish Highlands. It's very difficult to legally immigrate to the UK, and I'm doing my best to provide a vicarious look at life here in the Far North. After 45 years of hard work and pain, I'm building a new life here in the Highlands -- and it really is worth it. For the cinephiles: this video was filmed with two cameras -- a Canon R50 in 16mm with ND filter, and my wife's Android phone. With the Canon, I shoot 8-bit Rec. 709. No filming in log, no LUTs. Audio captured with wireless Rode lav mics. Background music courtesy of Artlist. Edited in Adobe Premiere. Maybe I'll start up a Patreon or something so I can afford better equipment, but hey, this is what I've got right now, so hopefully you enjoy it.
