I got an offer I couldn't refuse: learn to make fish and chips at a working restaurant in Scotland's Fraser Country. Sign me up! In a previous episode, I did a segment at the Trawler, a fish and chips shop in Golspie. My wife sent it to them, and the owner, Christie, emailed us back and offered us a chance to make fish and chips at the Trawler's sister site, the Friary. This is located in Beauly, a beautiful Highland village about an hour or so south of me. I'm utterly rubbish at cooking, yet here was a golden opportunity to do something I'd probably never get another chance to try. So I jumped at it. In addition to the Friary, Christie introduced me to several other businesses in Beauly: Munro Butcher, Harry Gow Bakery, Iain Marr Antiques, Morisons, and Campbell's of Beauly (which has the Royal Warrant). We're trying something similar here, with a travel special to the Highland village of Beauly. I really hope you enjoy this episode; it was a lot of fun to create, and I think it's important to see that you can still have new life experiences even into middle age and beyond if you're just willing to put yourself out there. For the cinephiles: this video was filmed with three cameras -- a Canon R50 in 16mm with ND filter, a GoPro Hero 7, and my Samsung Galaxy S25 Android phone. With the Canon, I shoot 8-bit Rec. 709. No filming in log, no LUTs. Audio captured with wireless Rode lav mics. Background music courtesy of Artlist. Edited in Adobe Premiere. Maybe I'll start up a Patreon or something so I can afford better equipment, but hey, this is what I've got right now, so hopefully you enjoy it.
