Kerala Style Sambar Recipe | Perfect for Idli, Dosa & Rice | Homemade Kerala Sambar Experience the true taste of Kerala with this comforting Kerala Style Sambar made with coconut oil, fresh vegetables, and a flavourful tempering! This recipe is simple, homely and perfect for beginners who want to make authentic sambar at home. Serve it with hot rice, idli or dosa for a wholesome South Indian meal. 🔥 Important Tips for Perfect Kerala Sambar Soaking the dal for 1–2 hours helps reduce the natural anti-nutrients in dal (like phytic acid). This makes the dal easier to digest, reduces bloating, and also helps your body absorb protein and iron better. • Cook the hard vegetables first (yam, carrot, pumpkin, green beans) as they take longer to soften. • Cook the drumsticks only till slightly tender so they don’t break while simmering later. • After soaking the tamarind, squeeze well and strain the pulp before adding it to the sambar. • Turn off the flame or keep it on sim (low) before adding the spice powders to the tadka to prevent burning. • Use coconut oil for an authentic Kerala flavour. • Simmer the sambar for a few minutes after adding the dal and tamarind so all the flavours blend beautifully.
