Nic talks about his upcoming European trip and tour where he will be displaying some amazing cars at Villa d’Este in Italy. Nic talks about getting to travel and enjoy amazing cars and people. We get to see the incredible grounds and mansion and ocean view where the Audrain Concours is held in Newport Rhode Island. They talk about how Newport has a British feel. Nic grew up with a father who was heavily involved in car culture and drove Bentleys and was friends with Hall of Famer Briggs Cunningham. His father spent a lot of time with Briggs Cunningham when he was racing at Le Mans Stewart and Nic go over the importance of the Pebble Beach Concours and how amazing the event is each year and how last year was the first time a preservation car won Best of Show. This leads to a debate of whether Concours events should have a separate category for unrestored or preservation cars as well las a category for Best of Show that is only restored cars. But this means the term preservation needs to be defined because a barn find isn’t a preserved car. A barn find is just an abandoned car. They talk about the setting of the event at Audrain and the Breakers Mansion. They discuss how the first road race happened in Newport when the Vanderbilts would race around the area in their Renaults. They get hundreds of cars to each Cars and Coffee event at the incredible Fort Adams State Park. This leads to a discussion about the importance of promoting the hobby and keeping it going and helping get the next generation involved. Audrain Concours tries to get young people involved with their 30 Under 30 Classes. These are classes where the owner is under 30 years of age and has spent less than $30,000 restoring the car. Stewart and Nic review the upcoming 2024 Audrain Newport Concours event, the classes being judged as well as some of the events and what to expect when you attend. They have added a Modern Supercar Story class for the 2025 show. They show us the 1951 Porsche 356 SL that won the Pre-1955 Race Car Class in 2024, that is basically one of a kind. Even more amazing is that Nic Waller’s father took a picture of that car racing at Le Mans in 1951 and Nic gave the owner a copy of the picture. It was the first Porsche to win a major international race. Last year the People’s Choice Award went to a 1958 Devin SS SR2-6 Roadster. Stewart’s favorite car from the 2024 Audrain Newport Concours was the outrageous 1961 Chrysler New Yorker Station Wagon. Seeing these cars is important to preserving the history of all cars – from muscle cars to European to station wagons. Audrain is expanding their classes so a wider range of cars can participate. The most elegant car last year was the 1937 Delahaye 135 Coupe des Alpes. Stewart announces an absolute, no reserve auction at Classic Auto Mall on Friday September 19, 2025 that includes a lot of barn finds and military vehicles, army trucks, El Dorado Cadillacs, Dodge and Ford Pickup Trucks and more. Bidding will be in person, on-line, proxy and telephone. Many are project cars and do not have titles. Keith Martin, Publisher of Sports Car Market Magazine joins the show to discuss car shows he’s been attending and what makes them great, including the Portland Transmission Warehouse Show which has grown to more than 1,000 cars. Keith likes to ask people what they like best about their car. He talks about how people love to tell stories about their cars and how he enjoys hearing the stories. They discuss how people remember the first car they drove and owned and how cars bring back memories.
