Christkindlesmarkt 2023, Nuremberg - magical lights and christmas mood

The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt is one of the oldest Christmas markets in the world. It takes place in the atmospheric center of Nuremberg on the main market square and in the adjacent streets and squares. We set off on the Friday afternoon before the first Advent. The city shines with lights and it is snowing. In contrast to last year, when this was omitted due to energy saving measures, this year the medieval buildings such as the imperial castle, the churches and the Beautiful Fountain will also be beautifully illuminated again. This evening the Christ child opens the market with the traditional prologue. We stand in the crowd on the main market square and listen to the recitation of the Christ child. Then we dive into the “town made of wood and cloth”. There is a wide selection of Christmas decorations in the stalls. Typical of Nuremberg are the funny plum men and the magnificent gold angels. There is also a large selection of culinary specialties. A highlight is of course the famous Nuremberg gingerbread. We refresh ourselves with Nuremberg bratwursts and mulled wine. And for dessert there are some roasted almonds! Then we walk a short distance to the Twin Cities Market. Here you can take a culinary as well as an arts and crafts trip to Nuremberg's twin cities and communities. A few steps away from the main market square, on Hans-Sachs-Platz, the Nuremberg Children's Christmas market beckons. Nostalgic carousels await the little ones here and there is also everything else that makes children's hearts beat faster. But that's not all! For the first time ever, the winter village with a Ferris wheel opened its doors on Jakobsplatz. The view from the 48 m high Ferris wheel would certainly be nice, but it has now become so cold that we decide not to go and head home. We will definitely walk through the Christmas market again this winter, preferably not on the weekend 😊. Yes, it's crowded there! But in the evening, when everything is wonderfully lit, the market shows its magic. And there is still so much to discover at the stands!
